Welcome to another fantastic year at Helen Keller! It is with great honor that I introduce myself, Yamiler Varela, as the new principal at Helen Keller Elementary. I am thrilled about joining the Helen Keller Family.
I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself. I was raised in Lynwood, attended Lynwood schools from Kinder through 12th grade. I have been dedicated in supporting the success of children as part of the Lynwood Unified School District for 17 years. I have 10 years classroom teaching experience spanning from 1st grade through 8th grade. I served 2 years as an Instructional Lead and 5 years as an Assistant Principal.
I am looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can reach their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
1. Attend school daily and arrive on time 2. Read daily to improve literacy skills 3. Share school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life 4. Know that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college
As the new principal at Helen Keller Elementary, I am committed to ensuring that students needs and interests help shape instruction and that students have a safe environment where they can thrive. Through the collaboration of students, staff and parents we can make this happen! The staff and I look forward to a year of wonderful experiences.
